Recently i was introduced to a New York City blog called Planet Awesome Kid. According to their website “Planet Awesome Kid is a blog we are dedicating to all the inspiring, amazingly cool children of New York City and the Planet!” It’s a fun site that showcases and celebrates children, not to mention their fun stylistic qualities.

Recycle Cycle

Last week the Children’s Own Museum hosted the first Recycled Toy workshop at the CN Tower here in Toronto. Families were invited to come create their very own snow globes using recycled jars, musical instruments from paper towel rolls and various boxes, and rubber band cars using toilet rolls. These were not only the toys created during the workshop, children were using their imaginations to make some very special creations.

It was my birthday the other day, and I received a great book from my cousin, Jim Henson’s Doodle Dreams: Inspiration for Living Life Outside the Lines. It’s filled with wonderful quotes and doodles. The quotes are fun and inspirational like this one

“Being afraid isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes you need that trembling feeling to remind you how exciting it is to be doing something new.”

We as a family are quite the creative bunch, we have graphic designers, actors, singers, illustrators, fashion lovers, photographers, dancers and much more. So being as creativive as we are, presents given to one another are of the type that like encourage our creativity, so this book was totally on par with that. I’ll be tweeting these quotes on our twitter account every couple of days.

With Halloween less than a week away, people are frantically trying to find those last minute touches for their costumes, and in some cases, just trying to find A costume. In a time when everyone is watching their pocket books and tightening their purse strings, costumes can take a little bit more creativity. Costume ideas can come to life with a little imagination. I found that this year more than ever, my local thrift stores were being flocked to by all my peers. Looking to save a buck to perfect the look.

Arts Education

The debate has been on going for decades, is art really an important part of ones education? Well, according to the nonprofit The Center for Arts Education, a study was released this Monday that New York City high schools with the highest graduation rates were also the schools that offered the most access to arts education. Just goes to show, art is an important part of life and our education.
